The Shopkick App

THE SHOPKICK APP

     Shopkick is one of the apps that I used when I go shopping to earn some gift cards.  I like using this app because no purchase is required to start earning points or, as the app refers to it, "kicks."  It started out as something to do while in the store.  It was just for fun.  It was like a treasure hunt.  Finding the items on the list and scanning them and earning kicks.  It was a clever way to keep the husband and kids preoccupied while I focus on shopping.

     The app uses location and it is always on even if the app is not in use.  I didn't like it but eventually I just got used to manually turn on and off the location in the settings.  To use this app, simply turn on the location in the setting and the app on before you start your shopping.  You will start earning kicks as soon as you enter any store that has walk-in kicks.  On my lazy days, if I remember, this is all that I do with the app.  

     Earning more kicks requires a little extra other than just walking in.  In a particular store, the app will have a list of items that you can scan the barcodes of and earn kicks.  This is the treasure hunt part.  With this you must allow the app access to your camera and you use the app's camera view to capture the barcode.    When ready, select the item on the app that you want to scan.  The camera view will show and just aim at the barcode.  The app will capture the barcode as soon as the camera focuses.  You will earn the kicks instantly.

     Another way to earn kicks is by submitting your purchase receipts.  Again the app will have select items per store that you can earn kicks on.  If you have one of the items listed on a receipt, send it via the app to claim the kicks.  You complete this using the app's camera and capturing an image of the receipt.  Much like scanning the barcodes in the store but this is something you can do at home.

     What to do with the kicks earned?  Once you have accumulated enough kicks you can redeem them and as electronic gift cards for various stores.  Some gift cards are email and a few are mailed in.  If you get the electronic gift cards, you will get them instantly and you may use it the same day.  As little as 500 kicks can be redeemed for gift card for a store of you choice.
